Earned Media: Orbia Is One of 34 Companies in Mexico Committed to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)

by Orbia | Sep 15, 2023
As part of Orbia’s comprehensive decarbonization plan, the company is committed to the United Nations Global Compact, the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

In Mexico, Orbia enjoys the distinction of being one of 34 select companies of more than 6,000 worldwide with such a commitment.

The SBTi is a core global benchmark for evaluating corporate and institutional decarbonization initiatives, in line with the Paris Agreement objective of limiting global warming to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The pursuit of SBTi goals dovetails with Orbia’s own comprehensive decarbonization plan that ranges from the transition to renewable energy sources to the adaption of green hydrogen and other emerging technologies.

Through the leadership of Chairman Juan Pablo del Valle and CEO Sameer Bharadwaj, Orbia is making great strides toward global sustainability objectives. Establish, SBTi-certified goals include reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 47% and Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030. With a global footprint of more than 130 production facilities in more than 50 countries, achieving these goals is possible with the strategic and operational alignment of Orbia business groups and their employees who pursue this purpose for people and planet.
