by Orbia | Feb 23, 2024

MEXICO CITY, February 23, 2024 – The United Nations (UN) Global Compact Mexico voted to include Orbia as a new member organization serving on its Board of Directors during general assembly proceedings on February 8, 2024. Tania Rabasa Kovacs, Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, will represent Orbia for future meetings.

The UN Global Compact is the world's largest voluntary corporate sustainability initiative that supports alignment of business strategy to sustainability and human rights outcomes. The Board of Directors of UN Global Compact Mexico is elected by the UN Assembly of Members and is a self-governed, independent entity.

As a board member, Orbia will seek to contribute in initiatives that align with the principles of the UN Global Compact. Out of 824 participating companies, Orbia is one of only 12 with Board of Directors representation.

“Being elected to the Board of Directors of the UN Global Compact Mexico is both an honor and an incredible milestone on our sustainability journey,” said Rabasa Kovacs. “On behalf of Orbia, I look forward to collaborating with fellow board members and leveraging our collective expertise to drive progress towards a cleaner, fairer world.”

Added Rabasa Kovacs, “With a legacy of strong corporate citizenship in Mexico and a longstanding commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), election to the UN Global Compact Mexico Board of Directors is a wonderful fit for our company.”

As of the issue of Orbia’s 2022 Impact Report, 61% of the company’s revenues contributed to the UN SDGs. Orbia is one of the 30 members of the BMV (Mexican Stock Exchange) ESG Index; one of 34 Mexican companies committed to the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi); was named a 2023 Responsible Business by Expansión, a Mexican economic journal and in 2022 successfully issued its second offering of sustainability-linked bond notes into the Mexican market.
