Tania Rabasa Kovacs, Orbia's Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, accepts an award for the 30 Most Sustainable Minds in Mexico at the Forbes Green Economy and Sustainable Development Forum.

As Orbia's Vice President of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs, Rabasa Kovacs steers Orbia’s corporate governance and sustainability agenda to ensure the company achieves a positive environmental effect at the speed and scale needed to create the greatest impact. Under her leadership, the company had its 2030 scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reduction targets validated by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which provides a framework for companies to set clear and measurable goals to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement. Orbia has made significant strides to achieve this goal. Last year Orbia reduced scope 1 and 2 emissions by 11%, scope 3 by 9% and increased the use of renewable electricity by 146%. As of 2022, 61% of Orbia revenues now contribute to the U.N. SDGs.

Orbia has received numerous recognitions by third parties under Rabasa Kovacs’ tenure, including a position on the S&P Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for four consecutive years, an Ecovadis Gold Medal two years in a row and being named an ESG Trendsetter by NASDAQ, among other honors. Orbia’s intrinsic commitment to the SDGs is additionally evident through its brand ImpactMark: a first-of-its-kind performance tracker that displays year-over-year performance on six key environmental, social and governance indicators.

“Meeting decarbonization needs is both a large opportunity and great responsibility – we must stay committed to solving this challenge as individuals and through collective action,” said Rabasa Kovacs. “I am honored to be recognized for the role I have played using my position at Orbia to continually push the bar of sustainable innovation and advance progress toward the U.N. sustainable development goals. This award also serves as a reminder that sustainability is a journey and we must continue to reinforce our commitment to drive positive change every day.”

Orbia’s size and commitment to advancing sustainability has a significant impact on Mexico's industrial landscape and sustainability initiatives. Orbia is one of the 30 members of the BMV (Mexican Stock Exchange) ESG Index, one of 34 Mexican companies committed to SBTi, was named a 2023 Responsible Business by Expansión, a Mexican economic journal, and in 2022 successfully issued its second offering of sustainability-linked bond notes into the Mexican market.
